While it’s no longer news that many Americans are overweight, a report last month issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) got its share of headlines. As a country, the CDC survey found, nearly 27 percent of adults nationwide now are considered obese. In 2000, the comparable number was 19.8%. Put differently, an additional 2.4 million Americans joined the ranks of the obese since just 2007.
It gets worse. The CDC said the overall obesity rate today is probably much higher; it said the study relied on telephone surveys with about 400,000 adults who were asked to self-report their height and weight, information that people often misrepresent. The real number is probably closer to 34 percent, based on actual measurements of 5,555 adults in 2008.
Obesity is defined as having a body-mass index—a calculation based on height and weight—above 30, or about 180 or more pounds for a 5-foot, 5-inch person. People with a BMI 18.5 to 24.9 are considered of healthy weight, and a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. (The National Institutes of Health has an online BMI calculator at www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi).
The fact that illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, various cancers, osteoarthritis, hypertension and depression, which are all associated with obesity, remain on the rise for men and women in every state is absolutely staggering to me.
And now, the good news.
We’re the lucky ones. Having worked in the health, wellness and fitness arena for the better part of a decade I can tell you that many of us who live and work in this region are fortunate. In general, we are a highly educated demographic with steady, upwardly mobile jobs; we have access to healthy, affordable food sources, as well as parks, running trails and other fitness resources. Many of us also stay active, and look for innovative ways to stay ahead of the game.
As founder and owner of Body Elements, Northern Virginia’s premier Endermologie® center, I can assure you there are no shortcuts. But there are ways to augment or even improve on what you’re already doing – whether your goal is to stay in shape, maintain optimal weight, slim down, improve flexibility and energy, or simply to work on so-called problem areas you’ve identified. At Body Elements we focus on three major components that comprise health and fitness: Nutrition, exercise, and a powerful massage-based technology (Endermologie) whose benefits include the elimination of cellulite; strength & flexibility improvements to enhance athletic performance, and classic body contouring results.
As an integrated, non-invasive program, you would be hard-pressed to match the results we see every day. And each program is customized to help anyone reach their goals quickly and effectively.
30 Days to a New You
Remember our three pillars? Nutrition, exercise and Endermologie? Body Elements integrated the three to create a 30-Day Kickstart Program that produces lasting results fast. We know it works because we see it every day with our happy clients. Those who stick with it – it’s only 30 days – achieve visible weight loss and body toning, have improved energy, and for women, reduce or eliminate the appearance of cellulite.
The Kickstart Program specifically focuses on these three pillars:
• Endermologie is the first patented process cleared by the FDA as a therapeutic massage technique proved to break down fat stores — and eliminate the appearance of cellulite
• Functional Training is a high-intensity, customized program that can achieve results in as little as 30 minutes per session
• Isagenix® is a physician-created, high-protein nutritional weight-loss and cleansing regimen. Better stated, it’s food that contains ALL the nutrition that your body needs.
Endermologie
Endermologie, along with a non-invasive protocol called Lipomassage, works by increasing the body’s metabolism and circulation through deep-tissue massage. It is non-invasive – a key differentiator compared with competing services – while the technology helps the body eliminate fatty deposits naturally, resulting in smoother skin and a more contoured body with improved muscle definition.
Endermologie is provided by trained, certified technicians – and it feels great, like a sports massage.
Functional Training
Many of our clients are not interested in body building – they simply want to get in shape. Functional training is the perfect solution because this method focuses on maintaining or enhancing regular everyday movements of your body – versus exercises that focus on just one muscle at a time – your biceps, for example.
Because everyday movements use multiple muscles at a time, it’s important to train the central nervous system and muscles together by using exercises that train overall movements – and not just individual muscles by themselves. Our sessions last about 30 minutes – and you will see results.
*Group training is available.
*Isagenix Cleansing & Fat Burning System*
Isagenix is an all-natural, nutritional products company that developed physician-endorsed dietary products to help anyone create meal-replacement regimen and healthy cleansing routines. The products taste great, and when used regularly can help anyone succeed in reaching their ideal weight and health goals.
