October has prominently been named Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Salon
Michel & Spa is holding its 3rd annual Pink Hair for Hope fundraiser to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation and, also this year to include the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer due to the huge global success of last years’ efforts. Pink Hair for Hope is a month-long event where women of all ages can come to the salon to have a pink hair extension put in their hair for a donation of $10. Last year we raised $3,500 dollars, tripling the amount from the first year. It’s a fun way to show support and contribute to a cause. Strutting a pink hair extension definitely gets people to take notice and stop and think for moment what we can do to get closer to our goal of curing cancer and to remember those we’ve lost.
Salon Michel & Spa wanted to support this cause because we are surrounded by women all of the time and over the recent years we’ve seen so many of our dear clients and relatives stricken with breast cancer. Many of them under the age of 40! One of the biggest emotional battles these women face is losing their hair at the hands of chemotherapy. A woman’s hair is a key element to her self-image. A bad hair day is the making of a bad day. The day a woman has to shave her head is a day that absolutely no woman wants to face. Some even say that it is worse than finding out that they have cancer. We as stylists, at that particular time, can only offer empathy and a shoulder to cry on as we stand there with a razor in one hand and their hair in the other. Months will go by, maybe a year, before their hair grows back and they’re in our chair again. That is to say, we’ve been lucky enough yet not to lose any of our dear friends to this awful disease. Progress is certainly being made but we have a long way to go to stop this disease. Salon Michel & Spa once again looks forward to another year of Pink Hair for Hope and proud of our efforts to strengthen the awareness and contribute to finding a cure to help keep our friends alive.
Though there are many possible causes for breast cancer there are possible ways to prevent it too, such as with a good diet and exercise.
